Catching up on news from Tokyograph

I’m catching up on articles from the awesome website Tokyograph of mostly film and TV news. Click on the links to read the full articles on Tokyograph’s website.

The original show starred Ueto as rookie detective Sakuragi Izumi, who worked on difficult unsolved cases as part of a Special Investigations Office (based on an actual division established by Japan in 2009). This time takes place half a year later, after Sakuragi has been transferred to a different division that deals with current crimes.
Ueto Aya returns in ‘Zettai Reido’ sequel

The “Shinzanmono” drama series is getting a movie next year. Doi Nobuhiro is directing the film, which is tentatively titled “Kirin no Tsubasa: Gekijoban Shinzanmono.” Abe Hiroshi (46) will return in the starring role, along with Mizobata Junpei (21) and Kuroki Meisa (22).

“Zenkai Girl” is the first time that Aragaki is playing the main character in a television series, though she has previously had several roles as major secondary characters. In the series, she plays Wakaba, an ambitious international lawyer with dreams of rising to the top.

Kuroki Meisa (23) and Tabe Mikako (22) are acting together for the first time, co-starring in a drama series this summer called “Jiu: Keishichou Tokushuhan Sousakei.” The two will play police detectives on the same special investigation team, though their differing personalities lead them to constantly clash with each other.

Tokyograph: GACKT launches earthquake relief fund

Singer GACKT is using his influence to help earthquake relief efforts, establishing a new emergency donation fund called ‘SHOW YOUR HEART.’ The fund was organized with cooperation from popular online gaming portal Hangame, and a special webpage has been launched for the fund.


The donations, which are being accepted through a Sumitomo Mitsui bank account, will be given to the Japanese Red Cross and prefectural welfare organizations.

Tokyograph: Morning Musume’s Niigaki Risa cast in ninth “Twilight File” omnibus

An audition announcement has revealed that Morning Musume member Niigaki Risa (22) is set to appear in a movie tentatively titled ‘Bad Days Reason,’ part of the omnibus ‘Twilight File IX.’ Specific details about the film are not yet known, but shooting is scheduled to start in fall 2011, presumably for a 2012 release. Although she was raised in Yokohama, Risa’s grandparents are from Okinawa and according to her Wikipedia page, she’s the “longest serving sub-leader of Morning Musume.” Go Risa!

Tokyograph: Kuroki Meisa cast as heroine in “Andalucia: Megami no Houfuku”

Actress Kuroki Meisa (22) has picked up another heroine role in a major motion picture. After co-starring with Kimura Takuya (38) in last year’s hit movie “Space Battleship Yamato,” she will now be joining Oda Yuji (43) in “Andalucia: Megami no Houfuku,” the sequel to the 2009 blockbuster “Amalfi: Megami no Hoshu.” […]

I haven’t had a chance to watch “Space Battleship Yamato” yet but it is on my queue of films to watch in 2011. Guess I’ll be adding this one too.

Babies, breakups, and new love?


Ayano Kinjo (33), the keyboardist of the duo Kiroro, is an expectant mother once again. Her agency announced that she is in her fourth month of pregnancy, with the baby due in early April.

This will be Kinjo’s third child, tying her with Kiroro vocalist Chiharu Tamashiro (33). Kinjo’s first two children were born in 2005 and 2009, while Tamashiro gave birth to her children in 2006, 2007, and 2009. (Full article at Tokyograph.)


Namie Amuro (33) and comedian Atsushi Tamura (36) have broken up, it is being reported. A source close to the couple says that they ended their relationship just last month, choosing to separate due to their busy schedules and lack of time together. (Full article at Tokyograph.)

New love?

Just a couple weeks ago, it was learned that Aya Ueto (25) and V6’s Go Morita (31) broke up after an 8-year relationship. At the time, it was said that neither side had found a new lover, but news reports today claim that Ueto is now dating EXILE leader HIRO (41). (Full article at Tokyograph.)

Aya Ueto in “Juunen Saki mo Kimi ni Koishite” – Tokyograph

Aya Ueto (24) will star in a short drama series this fall, titled “Juunen Saki mo Kimi ni Koishite.” This will be her first time leading a series on NHK.


The story focuses on 26-year-old Rika (Ueto), a single editor who is unskilled in love. The story starts when a man (Uchino) appears before her, telling her that he is her husband from 10 years in the future. He informs her that she will meet the young version of himself in a few days, but begs her not to marry him.

Both Ueto and Uchino will have double roles, playing their characters in the present and 10 years in the future.

“BENI invited to Anime Expo 2010” – Tokyograph

Singer BENI (24), who just achieved her first #1 album this past week with “Lovebox,” has been confirmed as an official Guest of Honor for this year’s Anime Expo convention in Los Angeles.

Anime Expo 2010 is being held on July 1-4 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. BENI is scheduled to perform a concert on July 3 at the Nokia Theater.

BENI, who used to perform under her full name Beni Arashiro, once attended an elementary school in San Diego, California. However, this will be her first time performing as a singer in the continental United States.

DA PUMP’s ISSA and model Lena Fujii too busy to be together

Things are over between DA PUMP member ISSA (31) and model Lena Fujii (25), it was learned on Friday. The couple reportedly broke up at the end of March.

ISSA and Fujii’s relationship was discovered in June of last year, and both of them publicly confirmed they were dating. However, they are said to have grown apart, due to their busy work schedules.

ISSA has been busy with DA PUMP, especially since KEN’s departure in December left ISSA as the only remaining original member. Meanwhile, Fujii has been appearing on variety shows and producing her own fashion brand, in addition to her modeling.

Catching up on news from Tokyograph

Stereopony at AnimeNEXT in New Jersey

This will be the band’s first performance at an American anime convention. However, they have played in the United States before: in 2009, they performed at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas.

Gackt moves to Avex, may tour Europe

Singer Gackt (36) has announced that he has just signed with Avex. His first single under that label is scheduled for June 16, though details are still unknown.

Aya Ueto, Go Morita in long relationship

Aya Ueto (24) and V6 member Go Morita (31) are reportedly a couple. Rumors of the pair have been around since 2002, but there has been no confirmation of it until this week, when Ueto acknowledged that she is currently in a relationship.

YUKINARI settles divorce

Former DA PUMP member YUKINARI (31) is now officially divorced. He and former talento/pro wrestler Natsu Nishida (27) have been in divorce arbitration since 2007.


YUKINARI left DA PUMP in December 2008, and since then he has started a new project with former groupmate KEN, who left DA PUMP in December 2009. Nishida, on the other hand, has been retired from show business since around the start of her marriage, but she signed with a new agency this month and appears to be preparing for a comeback as an actress.

Kamiji stars as fugitive lawyer in ‘Toubou Bengoshi’

Talento Yusuke Kamiji (31) has been given his first starring role in a television drama series. He will lead the tentatively titled “Toubou Bengoshi,” based on the manga “Toubou Bengoshi Narita Makoto” that was serialized between 2007 and 2008.
