2nd Okinawan FEASTival

We’re so happy to see a return of Shari’s Okinawan FEASTival! This year it’s running from September 1st to the 14th and there’s a lot of food 🍱 and drink 🍺 to be excited about. 😋

From the opening of American Cafe in 1923 to today, there has been over 350 Okinawan owned restaurants in Hawaii. Most of the original restaurants have closed but there is a new generation operating today. In the spirit of Yuimaaru (communities supporting one another, especially in times of need), we are asking the community to help support these local Okinawan owned restaurants. This year, FEASTival is teaming up with the Okinawan Festival! Festival will be virtual this year at okinawanfestival.com on  September 4th & 5th.

Modern technology is reaching every corner of the globe, and leaving no industry untouched, as now a local company has come up with an Awamori Large-Scale Dictionary for the smart phone iPhone.

The software application produced by Rakuen-Keikaku, a company that deals with the restaurant and publishing industries, works with the Apple iPhone, listing all 365 brands of awamori from the beverage’s 48 distilleries on Okinawa. The software lets customers sort for different awamori brands, taste, fragrance, percentage of alcohol, by distiller and by awamori name.

Set for a mid-December release for ¥600. I’m hoping it’ll be released for the US too and if it is, we’ll have a review up as soon as we can get our hands on it.

Wallpaper: Namie Amuro makes you want to try Coca-Cola zero

We called it, and it happened! (We love it when we’re right. 😀 ) Available as of today, three wallpapers to lovely adorn your Mac/PC with from the Coca-Cola zero website featuring Namie Amuro.

Also available on the site is the new CM (15 and 30-second spots) and a making of which clocks in at 8 minutes 32 seconds! BTW, the name of the spot is “Wild Training.”

Thanks to Coca-Cola zero for the great work for their latest ads and I’m almost certain that these wallpapers will be on a lot of desktops around the world. OK, let me put down my Diet Pepsi and grab a zero. 😛

Wallpaper: Meisa Kuroki is so smooth

It’s not what you think. Yeah, she’s beautiful and all and it’s not like we’re saying that she’s not smooth but this time, actress/singer Meisa Kuroki is promoting a new beer from Kirin called Kirin Smooth. So how about having Meisa on your Mac/PC screen with the words “I am Smooth!” to look at when you’re reading Karakui.com? Good? We think so. 😛

Desktop: Beer and Beni

Or should the title have read Beni and Beer? Well, regardless, this is a match made in heaven when a pop idol like Beni Arashiro becomes the image girl for an alcoholic beverage from one of my favorite beer makers: Orion Breweries based in Nago, Okinawa. There are two different wallpapers to choose from as well as two screensavers (PC-only) that follow the theme of each wallpaper. The website is kind of cluttered but you’ll also find a CM with Beni’s single “SouthernSter” that’ll make you forget that they’re trying to sell you beer. (Via 壁紙fan!)
